| My work involves finding stylish vintage chairs and reupholstering them in bold and beautiful fabrics. I am particularly drawn to chairs from the sixties and fifties, or occasional chairs that have a classic or iconic shape recognisable from a certain period. I enjoy contrasting different patterns and textures in one piece, perhaps with silk piping or vibrantly coloured buttons to create even more contrast. I incorporate a mix of contemporary and vintage fabrics often with luxurious textures like wools and silks. I love fabrics with an unusual weave or interesting pattern. I want my pieces to make a bit of a statement; a work of art in a piece of furniture? A bold claim, but I like to think so. I use traditional upholstery methods when revamping a chair. Springs and buttons are hand tied and everything is hand stitched and hand finished to a very high standard. Each piece is unique and a work of craftsmanship. Along with private commissions, previous clients have included interior design companies and Charleston. Off the peg items are available for sale, please refer to the gallery and enquire as to availability. Commissions are welcomed. Each piece is priced depending on the final choice of fabrics and the chair frame itself. I work solo on a piece from start to finish so lead times are usually around 12 weeks. |
